The church in Haines City started in the 1920’s when a few members met in a room at the Triangle Hotel. Shortly after that the first church building was constructed on North 14th Street. That building served as the place of worship until 1942, when the building at 113 S. First Street was purchased. Improvements and additions to the building were made in the 1950’s. Then in 1973, construction was started on 4.6 acres of our present location on Robinson Drive. In the fall of 1988, the addition of a fellowship hall was started. This was completed in March of 1989.
Clarence C. Brown, who worked with the church from the late 1920’s until approximately 1937, was probably the first regular minister. Bro. Brown worked in a shoe shop six days a week but still had time to devote to the work of the church. He never accepted any salary for his work with this congregation or for his ministry in Daytona Beach after moving there in 1937.
Some of the other ministers who served after that were L. B. Chastine, Guy Overby, William Robbins, Leo Patton, D.H. Hadwin, Larry Jones, O.E. Moss, D.M. Hadwin, Bob Carey, Sam Willcutt, Sam Conley, Derek Long and our present minister, Rusty Hilliard.
We are a church dedicated to God and family, with a foundation of letting the bible speak for itself, praising God in word and deed, and lifting up one another in Christ.
